- EquipmentBrand and full model numbers for every piece: outdoor unit, indoor coil or air handler, furnace. Model ______
- EfficiencyThe ratings for this exact combination — SEER2 and EER2 for cooling, HSPF2 for heat pumps, AFUE for gas furnaces.
- How the size was chosenA load calculation or a clear explanation — not just "same as the old one".
- Permit and inspectionWho pulls the permit. In California a replacement usually needs one, and often a duct leakage test verified by a third-party (HERS) rater.
- DuctsWhether ducts will be tested, sealed, repaired or replaced — and what happens if they fail a test.
- RemovalTaking away the old equipment and recovering its refrigerant properly.
- WarrantyManufacturer parts term, whether it depends on registration, and the installer's labor warranty in years.
- Timing and paymentStart date, how long it takes, deposit, and when the rest is due.
- ExclusionsWhat is not included — electrical upgrades, drywall, crane lifts — so there are no surprises.
Comparing quotes
Compare like with like
Two prices only compare fairly if the equipment, efficiency, ductwork and warranty are the same. If they aren't, ask each contractor to quote the same thing.
